The Mission Hospital Durgapur organises 1^st Mass Gathering Medicine Symposium, 2015 at the hospital premises for the first time in Durgapur as a responsible hospital of this area.
 
The symposium was announced in the august presence of Dr. John R. Acerra ( Director, International Emergency Medicine Program, North Shore - LIJ Health System & Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine, Hofstra North Shore - LIJ School of Medicine, New York, USA) and The Emergency Medicine team of The Mission Hospital, Commissioner of Police(ADCP) Mr. Ajay Nand (IPS), experts from Fire services, Puja committees and various responsible people of the society.
 
 Dr. Satyajit Bose ,Chairman of The Mission Hospital, Durgapur took this opportunity to organise such symposium which may benefit our society at large, ahead of the festivities.
 
Though Mass Gathering Medicine is a new concept in India, it deals with prevention and treatment of individual in a group. It itself is an important subject after the tragic incidence in HAJJ where several pilgrims died in a stampede even after standard precaution taken from their past experiences. But what about us in Durga puja? Are we prepared?
 
This symposium was to aware and help in planning process to the society at large to deal with medical emergencies in both non disaster and disaster related situation like festivals, sports events, political events, concerts, shopping fest in a mall ,railway stations, bus stations and Airports where there is gathering of common peoples. We have also discussed the role of govt and private hospital in disaster scenario. Implementation of advanced EMS service was also discussed in a panel discussion where all stake holding peoples were a part.
 
Dr. Avishek Chatterjee, In charge of EMS & Pre hospital Care of The Mission Hospital, Durgapur, mentioned about the training of volunteers of Puja committees, Civic police, Fire Fighters etc., in BLS (Basic Life Support) who can be helpful as a first responder in case of any emergency during these mass gatherings and evacuate any person as early as possible to the nearest hospital so that he or she can be saved.
